Wednesday 4th March 2009, 3:01PM GMT.

Dave Matthews BandOne of America’s leading groups,The Dave Matthews Band, has chosen Wolverhampton Civic Hall as its only UK gig outside London when it comes over to support Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park in June.

After the Springsteen gig sold out in hours, the Dave Matthews Band (also known as DMB to fans) announced three UK shows, two at Brixton Academy and the third at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Monday June 29, 2009.

Tickets, which go on sale at 9am on Friday, March 6, cost £33.50 plus booking fees.

The Civic Hall’s Jonn Penney said: “As one of only three intimate UK shows as part of their European Tour this summer, with the other two dates both in London, we expect fans to travel from far and wide to Wolverhampton for this rare treat.”

Formed in Virginia in the early 1990′s, the Dave Matthews Band has sold a collective 35 million albums and more than 15 million concert tickets, and was recently named the top-drawing American band in the world by Billboard magazine.

The group is renowned for its eclectic sound, which incorporates violin and saxophone. All Music Guide says the group’s music “presents a more pop-oriented version of the Grateful Dead crossed with the worldbeat explorations of Paul Simon and Sting”.

This can be heard in the band’s numerous US hits including What Would You Say, Crash Into Me, Too Much, Everyday and American Baby.

The band will launch an extensive tour in April 2009 to promote its upcoming new album, produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Alanis Morissette).
