Alert over gun suspect

A suspected gunman was arrested in Shrewsbury town centre after the alarm was raised by a member of the public.
But the man was later released without charge after police found he was not carrying a firearm and no offence had taken place.
The alarm was raised just after 7pm yesterday by a member of the public who believed they had seen a man with a firearm near to Shrewsbury Railway Station in Castle Foregate.
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, today confirmed a man was arrested.
