County brewery buys up pubs

Two pubs which belonged to a national chain have been snapped up by a north Shropshire brewery.

Joule’s Brewery has bought The Lord Hill, in Shrewsbury Road, Market Drayton, and The Red Lion at Bomere Heath.

The Market Drayton-based company, which is building a new brewery in the town, bought the pubs from national chain Punch Taverns.

Steve Nuttall, Joule’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to have been able to buy these two very good prospects for the brewery.”

He said the Red Lion, run by John Dulson is “potentially a very pretty village pub” and the brewery plans to refurbish it.

He also said the brewery was “especially pleased” to have bought the Lord Hill, run by Roy and Sharon Blase, as not only is going to be in the home town of the brewery but was built by John Joule and still retains the trade mark red cross of Joule’s Brewery.
