Telford Town up for sale
Saturday 28th February 2009, 11:43AM GMT.
Shropshire football club Telford Town has been put up for sale – and it’s yours for £1,500
Its owners, husband and wife team John-Paul and Claire Bowker, say the credit crunch has hit them hard and they have been left no choice but to offload the Shropshire County Premier League team.
The club was formed in 1999 by John-Paul’s uncle Richard Green and played under the name Just For Fun (Telford) – only changing to its current moniker in 2007.
Now the Bowkers want to ensure it has a future beyond the end of the season by finding a new backer.
“For the family it’s been a difficult decision but with the credit crunch as it is there’s just no way we can carry on,” said club secretary Claire.
“We’re looking for £1,500 and that includes the kits, dugouts, nets, balls – everything basically – as well as a club in the premier division of the County League.
“We have fought long and hard to create, maintain and build this club, usually against tough odds.
“But this latest blow is the toughest to face. The club cannot continue in its present structure so change is inevitable if it is to survive.”
JFF started out in the Telford Combination then progressed through the Premier League, gaining promotion from the first division as runners-up in 2006.
They finished 12th in their first season in the premier division before changing their name, then ended up in 10th place last season. They sit in 12th position in the current standings.
The club has been playing its home matches at Leegomery Playing Fields, but will host their final five home games of the current season at The Bowring.
Anyone interested in a buy-out should contact Claire in the first instance on 07837-992606.
