Kit build for £2.5 million new school

Saturday 28th February 2009, 5:59PM GMT.

A £2.5 million school will be brought to Mid Wales on the back of 18 lorries and open to pupils in May, council chiefs have revealed.

The new school in Newbridge-on-Wye, near Llandrindod Wells, will open to youngsters from Newbridge Church in Wales School after the May half-term holiday.

A total of 29 pupils from the nearby Howey Church in Wales School will then join them at the school from September.

The school will be delivered this week – with 18 lorries delivering parts of the building on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

John Evans, communications manager for Powys County Council, said: “I can confirm that the new school at Newbridge will be delivered to the site this week on the back of lorries.

“It will come in 18 parts over three days and be crane lifted into position and it will be ready to open to pupils at the start of the summer term after the May holiday.

“The Newbridge pupils will be the first to move into the school and will then be joined by the pupils from Howey in September, because their school is closing as a result of the schools modernisation plans.”

Powys County Council announced multi-million pound modernisation plans for the county’s schools last year which will involve replacement and refurbishment.
