Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has revealed he won’t celebrate if he scores for Wolves tomorrow – out of respect for the club who gave him his big break, Plymouth.

The Championship’s 21-goal top scorer normally celebrates his goals with the Molineux crowd who sing his signature tune – KC and the Sunshine Band’s Give It Up.

But the 22-year-old, who has been a revelation since his £1.5m move to Wolves from Argyle 13 months ago, says if he notches, it will be a more solemn affair, following the recent tradition of players not celebrating goals against their old clubs.

Wolves’ £6m record sale Robbie Keane received huge applause at Molineux when he refused to acknowledge scoring for Tottenham in 2003-04 and Ebanks-Blake will follow suit if he finds the net.

“I’ve got very good memories of the place and I don’t hold that against anyone,” said Ebanks-Blake.

Frosty reception

“If I do happen to score, I won’t be celebrating out of respect for the opportunity they gave me.

“It’s the club that gave me my first opportunity in League football and it’s the same club, same fans and same manager up to a point. They treated me well when I was there.”

Plymouth fans gave Ebanks-Blake a frosty reception at the opening day 2-2 draw at Home Park.

But the powerful striker doesn’t hold any grudges.

“I don’t think they were best pleased with me – I got quite a reception,” he said. “But it doesn’t bother me – I know what I did for the club.

Ebanks-Blake has now scored one more League goal than Steve Bull from the same games (53), and joked he’d love to emulate the legendary record Wolves scorer with his own stand named after him.

“When I play as many games as Bully and score as many goals for the club then maybe, but who knows?” he added.
