School transport changes up in air
Friday 27th February 2009, 1:20PM GMT.
Councillors have failed to decide whether to back a transport proposal that could see more than 300 youngsters in Chirk sent to a different secondary school.
Hundreds of Chirk youngsters attend Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen.
But a revised school bus transport policy that could see Chirk pupils attend Ruabon High School has been proposed by officials – ending a historic link with the Llangollen school.
The new policy would mean Chirk students would qualify for a free bus service to Ruabon only. A fee would be levied for alternatives.
Wrexham Council’s scrut iny committee last night passed the issue to the executive board for a decision.
Chirk Town Council chairman Barry Evans said: “The scrutiny committee decided they could not make a decision and decided to pass the whole thing on to the executive board. It is very frustrating because we are left hanging again and the uncertainty now continues to March 10 when the executive board meets.
“We now hope the executive board will make a decision and agree to allow Chirk youngsters to carry on attending Dinas Bran.
“As it stands there are not enough places at Ruabon High School for all the Chirk kids so some will go to Rua- bon while others could go to Rhos and others could end up at schools all over Wrexham.”
