Petrol station in major overhaul

A busy service station serving two of Shropshire’s main trunk roads is due to close for about four months while a major redevelopment is carried out.
The garage and forecourt at the Mile End Service Area, at the junction of the A5 and A483, on the outskirts of Oswestry is to be demolished to make way for a modern service station which could bring new jobs to the town.
It addition to the new sales building there will also be a canopy, car wash and jet wash, a new forecourt and cash machine.
The service station is due to close on March 9 for the work and reopen again in June – before the main holiday season.
Sophie Foale, spokeswoman of ExxonMobil, Esso’s parent company, said the new service area will take the On The Run format, and a number of new jobs will be created.
She said: “These sites – of which there are now just over 100 such sites in the UK – have been specially designed to offer fast, fresh and friendly service.
“In addition to retailing motor fuels the site will offer a wide variety of products, including Costa Coffee beverages, sandwiches and freshly baked sweet and savoury pastries.”
She added she could not confirm the number of employment opportunities at this stage.
