Shropshire’s biggest cycling club had two star turns as guests of honour at their prize presentation.
More than 70 members and their friends from Mid Shropshire Wheelers attended the function at Radbrook Community Centre in Shrewsbury.
But it was Nick Jeggo, co-promoter of the internationally renowned Newport Nocturne road races, and Andy Bason – Wrekinsport’s winner of the MSW Open 25 and 50 miles time trials – who were in the spotlight.
Bason, having received the Arthur Bishop Memorial, Curly Downes and MSW Open 50 trophies from Mids president Terry Egglestone, then assisted deputy chairman George Watkins to present the following awards:
Anthony Hough – 50 Miles, 100 Miles and Best All Rounder trophies; Luke Grivell-Mellor – Evening 10 Points Shield, Youth Cyclo Cross and Schoolboy Hillclimb trophies.
Ian Coupland – 25 Shield; James Emery – Hare and Hounds Fastest 10 trophy; Nigel Keyworth – Border Shield (evening 10 improvement).
Nick Cooper – Senior Hillclimb; Tim Jones – Road Race; Dave Mellor – Senior Cyclo Cross; Dave Mawhinney – Best Triathlon; Sarah Mawhinney – Howell Encourager Plate, Euan Grivell-Mellor School Cyclo Cross.
Alex and Jo Webb – joint Junior Best All Rounders; George Rowlands – Saturday Coaches Award.
Dennis Milsom, the club’s National Veteran Champion at 10 and 25 miles yet again, received the Shrewsbury Chronicle Merit Trophy.
The Pete Francis Two Up award went to Shane Moore and Carl Huntley while Rob Jones was voted Clubman of the Year.
Last but by no means least came Junior Clubman award winner, seven-year-old Kieran Morris who, out of 24 under-eight circuit events ridden, finished in the first three on 23 occasions!
This achievement placed Kieran fourth in his age grouped British Cycling National Rankings.
Standard Time Trials medals were awarded to:
lan Coupland – 25 Miles Gold, 50 and 100 Miles Silver; Jenny York – 25 Miles Gold, 50 Miles Silver, 100 Miles Bronze.
Anthony Hough – 100 Miles Gold; James Emery – 10 Miles Gold.
Fiona Boyd, Dave Mawhinney, Sarah Mawhinney, Luke Grivell-Mellor and Dave York all returned 10 Miles Silver performances.
And Luke’s medal was a “specia” to commemorate a new schoolboy 10 record.
Bronze 10 Miles medals went to Charlotte Brock, Simon Evans, Chris Jones, Rachael Jones, Adrian Webb and Alex Webb.
l The Cyclo Cross season is now over but Mids’ winter programme continues with members taking part in Sunday rides and various activities for all ages on the Sundorne Sports Village’s 1km illuminated circuit.
