Olympic ace to visit county
Thursday 26th February 2009, 7:29PM GMT.
World champion triple jumper Jonathan Edwards will be visiting Much Wenlock next week.
The Olympic gold medallist will be attending an assembly at Much Wenlock Primary School and will be dedicating a tree in memory of the former president of the Wenlock Olympian Society.
The society kicked off its bicentenary celebrations by planting an oak sapling last month in honour of the late president, Norman Wood, and his committee member wife, Barbara.
Mr Edwards will be visiting the town on Wednesday. Much Wenlock is hailed as the birthplace of the modern Olympic games as it was the home town of William Penny Brookes, who inspired the founder of the games.
