Problems of hospital parking
Wednesday 25th February 2009, 9:01AM GMT.
LETTER: Patients living in Mid Wales have to travel a great distance to get treatment, the nearest hospital being in Hereford.
Despite the fact they have to travel such great distance at a cost to themselves, they then have to pay for parking. In the case of day surgery at Hereford County Hospital they can be charged a maximum of £12.50 per day.
This means their worried relatives also have to bear this cost. To make matters worse the pay machine does not accept debit or credit cards so if a person does not have enough cash they have to worry about how they are going to get the car out of the car park.
I really feel for relatives on a bedside vigil over 48 hours or more at Hereford County Hospital. When I had to inquire at reception whether there was a cash point in the hospital I was told the only way to get cash on a card was to spend more than £5 in the shop and they would give cash back.
I do not think this is a very caring attitude and hope things change so the needs of patients are put first.

I completely agree and as far as i’m concerned the parking situation is undefendable.

I do agree that parking should be free at hospitals for patients and visitors. However, I don’s see it has any bearing on the distance you have to travel. If you are elderly a short journey necessitates the use of a car. Unfortunately, living in rural areas does mean that people have to travel for most things.

I wish I lived in wales, at least they do not have to pay for prescriptions !!! which we do in England as well as paying for hospital car parking

Why should English hospitals be treating Welsh patients?
Welsh have no interest in having the English in Wales, so why come to England for treatment at our expense.
