Supporter plays on goal celebrations

A Mid Wales football fan is recreating some of soccer’s most recognisable goal celebrations – using Subbuteo players.
Tom Taylor makes his own tiny replica football stars in his shop in Knighton which are used by players of the table football game. He has now extended his range to include famous celebrations used by some of today’s players.
Among the range are Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard’s aeroplane move.
It also includes former Newcastle and England striker Alan Shearer’s raised right-hand salute and ex-Middlesborough striker Fabrizio Ravanelli’s shirt over the head gesture.
Other new figures include Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor and his cupped-hand-to-ear celebration and Newcastle’s somersaulting superstars Lomana LuaLua and Obafemi Martins.
Mr Taylor, who runs the Peldroed Bwrdd table football and trophy shop in Station Road, has been making his replica teams, players and goals which are compatible with Subbuteo for several years, but it was only recently he decided to include the unique goal celebrations.
The 55-year-old said: “A friend suggested I should make a Gabby Agbonlahor figure celebrating a goal and it has really just taken off from there. I make the figures here and then I send them off to a mate in Cardiff who paints them.
“It is hard to say who will be the most popular. Perhaps it will be Steven Gerrard but I get a lot of requests from West Ham and Celtic fans for my teams so perhaps it will be a player from those sides.”
The cost of the goal celebration players range from £10 to £25. For more details contact Mr Taylor on (01547) 520096.
