empty-classroomA prankster pretending to be a pupil at a Telford school was not spotted by staff and could have been there much longer if a parent had not raised the alarm, it was claimed today.

The 16-year-old boy is understood to have been heard bragging to pupils at Sutherland Business and Enterprise College in Trench that he had been set a bet to study at the wrong school for two weeks.

But when one pupil told her mother about the bet during a telephone conversation at the start of morning break, the worried parent raised the alarm.

The council said the boy had not attended any lessons and had been hiding prior to discovery.

The mother, who did not want to be named, said: “We phoned the school to say there was somebody purporting to be a school pupil and it was part of a prank.”

Russell Griffin, spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “It has been established the child in question did not attend any lessons and had actually been hiding prior to discovery.

“When the child did attempt to enter a lesson he was confronted by a member of staff and escorted from the premises.”
