Missile thrown at car
Tuesday 24th February 2009, 11:35AM GMT.
A woman was lucky to escape uninjured after vandals threw a missile at her car as she drove along a Shropshire road. The missile dented the roof of the car and smashed the windscreen.
Police today described the attack as “extremely foolhardy and dangerous”.
The incident, which happened in Hereford Road, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, came just hours after stones were thrown at the windows of a house along the same street.
Police today said it was not known what was thrown at the blue Fiat Punto, but they are investigating the possibility that it is linked to the earlier anti-social behaviour along the road and that the same people may be responsible for both incidents.
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, urged people to come forward if they had any information about the item which was thrown at the car.
He said: “This was an extremely foolhardy and dangerous act of vandalism which could have caused a serious incident. Although the vehicle was badly damaged, the driver was fortunately not injured.”
The incident happened at about 11.30pm on Friday as the Fiat Punto was travelling along Hereford Road towards the town centre.
The vehicle was opposite McDonald’s restaurant when it was struck.
The earlier anti-social behaviour incident happened at about 9.30pm.
Anybody with information about either incident is asked to contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300 3333000 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

I had the misfortune of having this happen to me. Reported to the police and the same guys had previous for throwing, would you believe it, a gas bottle at a police car.
Apparently if they go to the magistrates and say that they didnt realise it was dangerous they get let off… Thats justice for you! I always thought ignorance was no defence…

We’ve had youth problems all week (school holidays and warmer weather). Saturday we had front doors being banged, Sunday brought the same with added stones being pelted at the house passing cars and disgusting verbal abuse, in Monkmoor.
