‘Happy days’ are at an end for Ifton

Tuesday 24th February 2009, 10:50AM GMT.

Ifton have been ‘outlawed’ by a Shropshire bowls league.

Their special dispensation to play KBM Oswestry division one and two fixtures on Thursdays – rather than Tuesdays – was swept away at last night’s league AGM.

Whittington, who hosted the annual meeting, had once again proposed that Ifton be made to play on Tuesdays in line with the rest of the league.

This time clubs voted 14-8 in favour of the motion, with two abstentions, so ending the St Martins club’s 40-year-old special status.

Ifton’s Terry Williams, who stressed they had been given the unique permission when the Oswestry League was formed – as they were already playing in the Whitchurch League on Tuesdays – warned: “There will be repercussions from this.”
