A Mighty good day at Bangor
Tuesday 24th February 2009, 10:50AM GMT.
Racegoers at Bangor-on-Dee will have an extra treat tomorrow – a first outing in two years for one of Shropshire’s top performers.
Henry Daly’s star hurdler Mighty Man will have a workout after racing at Bangor as the Ludlow handler considers a crack at the Ladbrokes World Hurdle for the nine-year-old at next month’s Festival.
The gelding’s racing career appeared to be over when he broke down badly at the 2007 Punchestown Festival, but Daly has slowly nursed him back to fitness.
And the Downton Hall trainer is now keeping his fingers crossed he can keep his charge in one piece to stage a bid to lift the stayers’ crown at the third attempt, having been placed in the race twice before.
“All has gone according to plan so far and my intention is to give him a piece of work after racing at Bangor,” Daly confirmed today.
“You have to check his legs every day but that is just the way it is with him. You have to accept it and just do the best you can.”
Daly also confirmed that Possol – second in Saturday’s feature Racing Post Chase at Kempton – is pencilled in for a run in the William Hill Trophy on the opening day of the Festival two weeks today.
