Widow’s danger road call
Monday 23rd February 2009, 2:30PM GMT.
The wife of a motorcyclist who died in a crash near Market Drayton today vowed to fight for safety measures on a “notorious” stretch of road where he lost his life.
Natasha Feather today described her husband, Richard, of Tern Hill, as a loving husband and devoted father to their three children Charmain, seven, Ryan, four, and two-year-old Keeley.
She was speaking after yesterday’s memorial ride when about 50 of Mr Feather’s motorcyclist friends paid their own tribute by slowly riding past the crash scene at Rosehill crossroads, near Tern Hill – exactly one week on from the collision.
Mr Feather died when his Honda motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Kia Cee’d car on the A41 at about 4.20pm on February 15.
In her personal tribute, Mrs Feather described her husband, whom she married eight years ago, as her soul mate. She said: “Richard was a very hard-working family man who loved his job as a heavy machine operator within the rail industry and always took pride in what he did.
“Motorbikes were his second passion in life after his family and he would often travel the length and breadth of the UK and Europe in all weathers, both for work and pleasure. I would like to thank all family and friends for their love and support shown during this tragic time.”
Mrs Feather added: “Richard’s competence on a motorbike was unquestionable and his loss repeats the need for urgent road reforms along this notorious stretch of the A41. His death adds to a long history of fatal accidents and in his memory, I will be fighting for a safer road in the hope no other family will have a loss as great as mine.”
Yesterday’s cavalcade, led by a car carrying Mrs Feather, the children and driven by her father Mr Phil Johnson, passed the scene at exactly 4.20pm travelling to Hinstock before returning to the Stormy Petrel.

Natasha is being so very brave as this sad time, we are all really proud of her and the children. Richard will be greatly missed.I really hope something is sorted out on this piece of road. There have been fatal accidents ever since I can remember there. Surely now the highways dept can do something to avoid more loss of life?

My thoughts are with Tash and our grandchildren, everything said by her about our sons driving and riding abilities is 100% correct, we will miss him all the more because I now know the crash was totally avoidable, rest in peace son, love and miss you. Dad.
