Simpson urges players on

Paul SimpsonManager Paul Simpson today urged his Shrewsbury Town players to keep the belief after the latest away day misery.

Despite an improved display, Town suffered a 3-1 defeat at bottom club Luton on Saturday.

They remain fourth in the table but are likely to drop at least a couple of places with all of their pursuers having at least one game in hand.

But Simpson remains confident his side can turn their away form – it’s now 15 League Two games on the road without a win – around.

“We have got seven games to look forward to away from home and the thing we have said is that the players have to keep believing,” said Simpson.

“Even if other people want to doubt us we have got to make sure we keep believing, keep working as hard as we have done recently and hopefully the results will keep coming (at home) and start coming away from home.

“There are still enough games to do something about it.

“The minute we stop believing then we have got problems. As long as we all keep believing hopefully others will come along with us.”

Simpson felt his side deserved more from the trip to Kenilworth Road on a day when they spurned numerous chances.

“I think the big thing was the goals changed the game,” he added. “We created enough chances, not just to win one game, but to win two or three games, but we got punished for every little thing.

“Anyone who knows what I’m like knows I try to be fairly honest and I think we did enough to win it.

“I wasn’t happy with it on Tuesday (against Chester). There were a lot of things on Saturday I was happy with but unfortunately we are getting punished for every little silly thing and we have still come away with nothing.

“We have created a lot of chances, and good ones as well.

“Unfortunately on Saturday and maybe even Tuesday, Grant Holt is going through one of those little phases where he doesn’t seem to be able to get the rub of the green.

“So many times this season we have thanked Grant Holt. Unfortunately, nobody else is stepping up to the plate at the moment when it’s not quite happening for him.

“But he’s strong enough, he will keep going and keep getting in and I thought his workrate was fantastic.”

You would think that it would be difficult for a team 4th in the table to be the laughing stock of the league ……………. but somehow shrewsbury manage it!

Dragon – I do not know who you support but I have a good idea. If it is the team I am thinking of then it is a case of the pot calling the kettle black!!!
