Man admits rape
Monday 23rd February 2009, 6:00PM GMT.
A 36-year-old man today admitted charges of rape and wounding with intent following an early morning attack on a woman near Shrewsbury’s Dana Prison.
Gary Morris, of no fixed abode, admitted raping the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on November 22 last year and unlawfully and maliciously wounding her with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm on the same day.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court today Judge Robin Onions warned Morris he would receive a long custodial sentence.
He said: “This is unusual as it is a stranger attack. You should prepare yourself for a long sentence”
Judge Onions made Morris subject to the requirements of the Sexual Offences Act and remanded him in custody. The case was adjourned for sentencing at a later date.
