Good performance but no win

AFC Telford v SouthportA good performance from the Bucks saw them run close to knocking title rivals Southport out of the FA Trophy, writes AFC Telford blogger Joe Davies.

Only an equaliser in the 88th minute could deny the Bucks victory in what was an entertaining game from start to finish, with the first 11 minutes providing two goals.

Further chances went to both teams during the match but neither side could pull away from the other – although it could be said that Telford were slightly the better side.

The result is a blow to both teams’ title aspirations but it really is a sickener for us as the replay only adds to the already jammed fixture pile up.

On the other hand, it also keeps us in line for a dramatic treble, which really would be some achievement.

Lee Vaughan gave another man of the match performance to follow the one he gave at home to Vauxhall Motors. He is really showing why he has been the subject of much speculation recently about league clubs chasing his signature.

It is a measure of how far the team has come in such a short space of time and a credit to both the player and club.

It is also good to see that the club is in such good financial security that there is no pressure to sell our best players. In fact we are offering such players a two-year contract.

In other news this week at the New Bucks head, it emerged that Matty Lewis has gone on loan to Unibond Premier title chasers Hednesford Town.

He was a key player for us last season and it was a real shame (as it would be for anyone) when he broke his leg in pre-season.

Hopefully he will get a few games and goals under his belt during the one month loan and come back to the club somewhere near the player he was when his injury struck.

A player of his quality can only add to the squad for the run in, especially with the number of games being played in such a short space of time. All members of the squad could play a vital role.
