FTSE 100 spends second day below 4,000

The FTSE 100 has spent another day below the 4,000 mark, slipping a further 38.33 points to 3,850.73.
Banking groups continued to rise on the index but most other stocks fell over the day.
Royal Bank of Scotland jumped 12.95 per cent over the session to 21.80p, while Legal & General rose 4.31 per cent to 36.30p and Barclays was up 3.99 per cent – although at 99p, the bank’s shares are still trading under a pound.
Private equity group 3i led the list of fallers, which was significantly longer than the list of risers on the index.
The firm fell 7.46 per cent after investors reacted to a deal 3i made to unlock more cash.
Recession fears have also hit British aircraft maker Rolls Royce, despite the firm lifting its forecast for delivering helicopters earlier today.
