Monday 23rd February 2009, 12:05PM GMT.

Theatre SevernShrewsbury’s new £28 million theatre has finally opened its doors for the time, with bosses hailing its first event as a major success.

A sell-out audience packed into the Frankwell venue last night for a lecture about Charles Darwin as part of celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth.

It gave many people a first opportunity to see inside the new theatre, which overlooks the River Severn in the town.

Adam Burgan, programme and marketing manager, said there was a buzz of excitement in the wings for the successful event.

He said: “It is finally here – the day we have been waiting for for so long.

“This is what it is about with the audience here and show’s going on.”

A host of top of leading personalities have been lined up to take to the stage at the venue, including Pam Ayres who will be at the theatre tomorrow night, James Morrison and Tony Benn.

And a special open day will be held for people to see the theatre on April 11. It will give people a further opportunity to see public areas of the building and backstage to see the provisions made for visiting companies.

And what about those people left without a TV reception who live under the shadow of the new theatre, dont matter now, they can go to the theatre to watch live shows, saves them a TV licence.

Here we go again, negative comments at the first opportunity, take a pop at Theatre Severn.
I take it Mr J didn’t want the theatre in the first place and will refuse to use it regardless of any performance. your loss pal !
