Puppeteer Michael Dixon
A teacher from Shropshire has pulled a few strings to gather one of the largest puppet collections in the world.
Michael Dixon, of Low Town, Bridgnorth is used to having Princess Anne sitting on his knee, the Queen, Margaret Thatcher and Naomi Campbell under his arms.
But Michael, 30, is not a friend to the rich and famous – he is an avid collector of puppets.
“I have always been interested in puppets and as a child I loved The Muppets,” he said.
“I have a lot of Muppet memorabilia and it is the largest collection of its kind in the world – there are talks of turning it into a museum.
“When I was seven, Breakfast Time gave me the opportunity to interview Muppets creator Jim Henson with Kermit the frog. I kept in touch with him and he sent me items. I even did my work experience on the set of Muppet Treasure Island.”
Michael, who teaches at Wolverhampton College, said: “When I was 16 I joined the British Puppet and Model Theatre Guild and I am now their archivist and I maintain collections for The Puppet Centre in London.”
