Churches ring in anniversary
Saturday 21st February 2009, 10:25AM GMT.
More than 70 churches were celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Churches Conservation Trust by ringing their bells at 2pm today.
The Birthday Bells were being rung to signal the start of the nationwide, year-long 40th birthday celebrations of the charity, which cares for many churches in Shropshire which are no longer used for regular worship.
Among the churches taking part are St Mary’s in Shrewsbury, which will be open to the public from 2pm, St Andrews at Wroxeter, which will be open from 3pm, and St Leonard’s in Bridgnorth, which will be open from 11am until 3pm.
