Town pair in doubt for trip

Nick ChadwickShrewsbury Town could be without two front-line strikers as they attempt to bring their away day blues to an end at Luton this weekend.

Nick Chadwick and Dave Hibbert are both struggling to be fit for Saturday’s trip to the Football League’s bottom club.

Chadwick is battling against an ankle problem which forced him off at half-time in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Chester.

Hibbert didn’t even get that far after having to sacrifice his place on the bench when suffering a re-occurence of a foot injury in the warm-up.

“Dave Hibbert has had a problem in his foot for quite a while,” revealed manager Paul Simpson.

“It’s causing him a bit of grief and he has got some orthotic inserts to wear with his shoes and for his boots.

“It’s one of those things we have had to manage. On Tuesday he put his boots on and he couldn’t even strike a ball. He’s out, possibly for 14 days.

David Hibbert“They are two players we could do without losing because at this stage we need everybody fit and available.

“The likelihood is what we have got we will have to go with, and there are two who look likely to miss this weekend.”

The injury to former Everton and Plymouth front-man Chadwick, in particular, is a significant blow to Shrewsbury.

The 26-year-old has displayed signs of forming a useful partnership with leading scorer Grant Holt after agreeing a deal to stay at the Prostar Stadium until the end of the season in January.

Should both fail to recover in time for Saturday, Tuesday’s goal-scorer Richard Walker could come into contention for a start while Michael Symes – who was a late call-up to the substitutes bench against Chester – would be in line for a place in the 16.
