Fiery win for Ludlow anniversary
Thursday 19th February 2009, 9:00AM GMT.
A clutch of Ludlow’s past stars lined the Linney terraces to witness a 17-14 win against Aston Old Edwardians.
The old boys turned out in force to watch the fiery Midlands Three West (North) clash as part of the club’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
“They were all there busy telling us all how to play,” joked Ludlow skipper Jake Parkes.
Dan Rawlings finished off a well worked move to put the home side 5-3 ahead after Aston had kicked an early penalty.
The visitors went over to move back in front before half time but Mark Gaubert restored Ludlow’s advantage after the turnaround.
Gaubert was then sinbinned after fisticuffs with Aston’s No 8, who was also yellow carded.
Ludlow fared better at 14 against 14 and Matt Young went over for a converted try to make it 17-8.
Rawlings was then sent to the sinbin following another altercation and Aston kicked two penalties in his absence to narrow the gap.
Parkes added: “The boys stood up to the line and did the job well.
“If we nail our next game and get the win then we’ll be right up there.”
