Villagers near Oswestry are preparing to welcome a royal visitor.
Prince Charles is to visit Froncysyllte to discover for himself why it was named Welsh village of the year for 2008.
The Prince of Wales is set to visit a cafe and pub, as well as taking a boat trip and being serenaded by the village’s most famous export – the Fron Male Voice Choir – during his visit in March 2.
Villager Julie Williams, who is involved in the planning for the visit, said: “We are all so excited the prince is coming to Fron.
“Winning the village of the year competition for Wales in 2008 was a great honour and a brilliant achievement for the community.
“The royal visit really is the icing on the cake.
“As you would expect from a village with great community spirit, everyone is keen to contribute and we are pulling out all the stops to make sure Prince Charles has a fantastic time while he’s here.”
Prince Charles is due to visit the local community centre, where representatives of Fron’s community business, Cakes and Company, will talk to him about the initiative.
The Seion Chapel will form part of the tour, where Prince Charles will be entertained with singing by the Fron Choir, which actually started life in the chapel just after World War Two, and local school children.
The prince is also due to visit the village pub, the Aqueduct Inn, where he will be introduced to representatives of some of the village’s many organisations.
