Council plans £3m efficiency savings
Wednesday 18th February 2009, 2:30PM GMT.
Telford & Wrekin Council is set to deliver £3 million in “efficiency savings” through a radical transformation of its services after joining forces with Northgate Public Services.
Northgate Public Services is a leading provider of innovative services to the public sector and utilities market.
The new partnership is just one of the initiatives the council is pursuing in order to deliver a £3 million business transformation and efficiency savings in the financial year 2008/09.
The move will see the council introducing a state-of-the-art document and records management system to improve the efficiency and performance of council services. Different data held by the council will be joined up under the system to try and cut down on the amount of paperwork.
The new solution should see savings being made both in office space and staffing costs.
As well as the reduction of paper use and related costs, the new service will offer other benefits to council officers and residents including a simpler workflow.
Adrian Lawrence, portfolio cabinet member for resources at the council, said today: “This new service will cut down bureaucracy, deliver greater efficiencies and save valuable officer time enabling them to focus on delivering safe and sustainable communities.
“We are confident that our partnership with Northgate will provide effective and efficient council services which meet the needs of today and the challenges of tomorrow. We are determined to improve our frontline services for citizens and further foster cultural change in the way in which the council is managed.”

you see what a conservative authority can do, with private sector expertise to replace the hapless public sector beurocrats, imagine the potential up and down the country for every council to do this and save my taxes being wasted by clown brown and his labour chumns on their pet proejcts in the slums
good for the Conservatives in Telford, keep it coming, we can squeeze more savings out yet
