Chambers challenges his players

Larry ChambersAssistant manager Larry Chambers has challenged AFC Telford United to transfer their free-flowing home form on to the road.

The Bucks were 5-1 winners over Blue Square North’s form team Vauxhall Motors at the New Bucks Head last night – four second half goals deciding a game that was far closer than the scoreline suggests.

It was their ninth victory on their own patch, and Chambers insists they will need to show the same style and resilience away from home if their promotion dream is to be turned into reality.

“A scoreline of 5-1 sounds convincing but for 65 minutes it was as tough a game as we have had for a long time,” he admitted.

“They’re sharp, they’re fit, they play the right way, their movement’s great and it was a difficult game for us.

“What I would say is that it shows when we do the right things at the right times and earn the right to play then we’re a good footballing side.

“We’ve got to do it on a consistent basis now. We’re always likely to be better at home than away – we had slip-ups against Stafford and Hyde but we do tend to do well at home.

“But leagues aren’t won at home and we’ve got to go away and start picking points up consistently.”

One setback last night was another injury to Carl Rodgers, who was making his first start since sustaining a gash in his thigh in the FA Trophy win over Hayes & Yeading five weeks ago.

The luckless midfielder suffered another cut, with Chambers revealing: “It’s a bad gash again – it’s on the shin this time.

“It doesn’t look as bad as the one on his thigh last time, but it’s a deep, deep cut. The doctor’s said he’ll be out for at least seven to 10 days.”
