Bucks bounce back

AFC Telford UnitedAfter the defeat at the weekend the Bucks bounced straight back with a 5-1 win at the New Bucks Head to get their title aspirations back on track.

Mark Danks set the wheels in motion for the win with his first goal for the club, hopefully the first of many, and it was good to see the midfielders helping to pitch in with the goals again, with Phil Trainer getting his first and second goals since signing in January, and also Liam Blakeman getting a rare goal to add to Danks’s strike and Terry Fearns’s goal.

It is just what the Bucks need at this stage of the season and we can’t have too many more slip-ups now if we intend to get promotion.

It has taken Danks a few games to get into his stride but now that he has netted his first goal maybe his confidence will come flooding back and we will see the best of him during the remainder of the season.

The same can be applied to Phil Trainer. He has put in a few good showings since his signing but when he signed the word was that he was a goal scoring midfielder.

It has also taken him a while to find his feet in terms of goals but hopefully the two against Vauxhall will be a stepping stone as to what is going to come from him during the rest of the season.

Rob Smith said after the Workington game at the weekend that they wanted to win the game more than us, which is disappointing, but 5-1 against Vauxhall shows we have something about us.

What disappoints Smith and the fans is when we play a team struggling for a bit of form and we find ourselves struggling for results.

We need to battle and have a bit more heart in the team, more fighters such as Lee Vaughan who is always battling, fighting, and tackling his heart out for the cause.

It is something we lack, sometimes against the lesser teams, and everyone knows we are not losing out through ability, it’s more heart and desire.

The following pack must be gaining heart from these unnecessary defeats but I don’t agree with Smith that we are in danger of missing out on the play offs altogether.

We have shown all season that we are capable of beating anyone on our day in the league, and with the Setanta Shield wins against the likes of Kettering and Burton it shows that we are a side that can trouble a good many teams in the Blue Square Premier never mind the Blue Square North we are in at the moment.

We just need to keep on our toes for a few more weeks and battle and fight and the quality will show through at the end of season by our league position.
