5,000 jobs to go at Goodyear
Wednesday 18th February 2009, 2:31PM GMT.
US tire maker Goodyear says it will cut 5,000 jobs this year as it contends with a severe downturn in the car industry.
On the same day that General Motors and Chrysler announced plans to shed 50,000 posts, Goodyear said 6.7 per cent of its workforce would lose their jobs in 2009.
The Ohio-based firm announced losses of $330 million (£232 million) for the final quarter of last year.
As well as job losses, Goodyear says salaries will be frozen in 2009 as it attempts to make cost-savings of $700 million (£492 million).
