Man gave police slip

Tuesday 17th February 2009, 3:09PM GMT.

An 18-year-old man escaped from Shrewsbury police station – by walking out of an unlocked door.

James Piggott was sentenced to three months in a young offenders institute after escaping police custody on March 26 last year after he was taken to the police station to be interviewed.

The three months will run concurrent with a sentence Piggott is already serving at HMP Onley Young Offenders’ Institute at Rubgy. He is due for release in October.

The court heard Piggott walked out of the back door and ran across the road before he was caught by a police officer.
