Motorcyclist killed in county crash
Monday 16th February 2009, 12:00PM GMT.
A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash in north Shropshire. The man, who has not been named, is believed to be in his 30s and from north Shropshire.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the attempts of an off-duty first aider and ambulance staff to save him.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to the A41 at Rosehill, Tern Hill, at about 4.20pm yesterday, after the collision between a silver Honda motorcycle and a black Kia Cee’d, driven by a mother with two children in the car.
Chris Kowalik, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “Crews arrived to find a first aider already on scene treating the motorcyclist.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the first aider and the ambulance staff, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
The driver was treated for cuts to her face and she and the children were “discharged at the scene.”
Richard Ewels, West Mercia Police spokesman, said the motorcyclist had been travelling from the Tern Hill direction towards Hinstock and the car in the opposite direction. They collided at the crossroads of Rosehill Road and the A41.
Anyone who saw the collision or circumstances leading up to it is asked to call Market Drayton police station on 0300 333 3000.
The road was closed for more than three hours.
Meanwhile police and ambulance staff went to an incident on private land off the A528, at Burlton, near Ellesmere. Mr Kowalik said a woman had overturned an off-road buggy and suffered minor injuries.
