The Indian Village in Mardol, Shrewsbury, lost up to £40,000 in trade after the Christmas Eve flood left the building filled with plaster. To see the original story click here.

The restaurant was fully booked until January 15, and had dozens of customer bookings for Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve meals.

But when the pipes burst in an upstairs flat the restaurant and next-door shop Stitch-in-Time – now operating from the nearby Giant Party Shop – were left resembling building sites.

Owner Parvez Choudhury was left devastated by the event but is now looking forward to the future after the restaurant reopened at last night after a £25,000 refit.

He said: “It was a disaster. This was like a tsunami for me. I was devastated that all the hard work I had put into it was ruined.

“But I knew I wanted to open again for my customers. I want to thank my customers for the support and the encouragement. They are the ones that have given me the support to start again and get it all done.”

It is believed the pipes burst in the early hours of the morning on Christmas Eve, filling up the ceiling space until it fell in.

Passersby noticed water pouring out of the building at about 3am and the fire service were called to deal with the flood.

Mr Choudhury said the restaurant has been fitted out with a new, modern look and he is hoping customers, old and new, will now come along and try it out.
