Bird society folds

Telford’s Cage Bird Society has folded after being left with just a handful of members.
Now society officials are giving people who donated competition cups and shields dating back as far as the 1950s the chance to have them back.
Members took the decision to bring the club to an end after it became a victim of modern times with fewer younger people joining up.
Gerald Cooper, ex-chairman, said today: “The Telford Cage Bird Society have decided at their annual general meeting held at the Kings Head Public House in Hadley by a majority vote that the club should fold.
“So we are appealing to anyone that has donated a cup or trophy over the years and would like them returned could they please contact me on (01952) 504818.” He said there were about 69 cups and shields.
Club funds of more than £1,000 are being given to charity, with the Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre, near Eccleshall among those benefiting.
