Love Bus sparks failing to ignite
Friday 13th February 2009, 11:49AM GMT.
A unique Love Bus that had been due to call in Shropshire has been taken out of service . . . because the county is too unromantic.
The vehicle was to have been laid on free of charge by Arriva Midlands, which hoped to play Cupid to aspiring Romeos in the county.
However, the vehicle will stay in Arriva’s garage tomorrow because no Shropshire men – or women – want to use it.
Arriva Midlands marketing manager Keith Myatt said the company had wanted to run the bus to Shrewsbury, where it would have arrived complete with chocolates, champagne, cherubs, hearts and harps.
The vehicle would have been personalised to carry the lucky lady’s or gentleman’s name, as well as the big question: “Will you marry me?”
Mr Myatt said the company had hoped the Love Bus would have injected a bit of romance into Shrewsbury. However, Arriva Midlands spokeswoman Jess Hardisty said the bus was unlikely to run because there had been a lack of interest.
She said: “As yet, we’ve not had anybody come forward from the region. We have got a Love Bus running in Yorkshire, but there won’t be one in Shropshire.
“We can give people until Friday to come forward, but unless we get any interest it won’t run.”
Romeos can find out more about the love bus by e-mailing love@arriva.co.uk
