Leisure complex scheme for town

The owner of a Shropshire golf course has applied to build a hotel and leisure complex which could eventually create 25 jobs.
A planning application has been submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council for the Shropshire Golf Centre at Muxton.
Burhill Golf and Leisure is seeking the go-ahead to demolish former farm buildings and build extensions to the existing clubhouse.
The company believes there is a shortage of hotel accommodation in the area and also hopes to cash in on demand for corporate events and weddings.
Manager James Lever said today: “A decision on the planning application is due in April but there is no timetable yet for when we might start work on the scheme.
“But we hope to create a 40-bedroom hotel, a health and fitness club, spa, gym and 25-metre pool.
“We currently employ 50 people here and would be looking at having perhaps 25 per cent more staff if we go ahead with the expansion scheme.”
He added: “The golf centre is set with Granville Country Park, a fantastic location close to a large residential area, and there is a good opportunity here to broaden our customer base.”
The golf courses at Muxton opened in 1992 and were designed by Martin Hawtree.
They are set in more than 250 acres of undulating countryside.
