County’s fire chief to retire
Friday 13th February 2009, 11:49AM GMT.
Shropshire’s fire chief today announced that he will step down after four years in the job – on the day his service was praised as one of the best in the country.
Chief fire officer Alan Taylor said he was retiring for personal reasons and wanted to spend more time with his family. He will remain in the post until the summer.
He said: “I have enjoyed every single day of my time with the fire service and that is without doubt due to the tremendous help and support that I have received throughout my career from so many great people.”
He was awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal for distinguished service in the 2008 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Stuart West, chairman of the Shropshire & Wrekin Fire Authority, described Mr Taylor as an “excellent” Chief fire officer.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service today received a glowing report from the local government watchdog with top marks for performance.
