Staff who were made redundant when Newport’s Woolworths closed its doors have got jobs in the new B&M Bargains store which has replaced it.
The former Woolworths store on High Street is set to reopen as the bargain superstore on February 19.
Adrian Colledge, spokesman for the chain, said: “We are pleased to be opening a B&M Bargains store in Newport, and very pleased to announce that a number of ex-Woolworths staff have chosen to join us. It has created 25 local jobs.”
B&M Bargains is a discount supermarket chain with more than 100 stores across the UK.
There are also nearby B&M stores in Wellington’s former Kwik Save store and on Forge Retail Park in Telford, after the chain took over some Au Naturale stores.
Based in Blackpool, it employs more than 3,000 people and sells primarily food and drink, toiletries and everyday household cleaning goods.
Mr Colledge added: “B&M Bargains is delighted to be opening in Newport. Over one million shoppers visit a B&M store every week, a testimony to our great value-for-money and customer service.”
