Wednesday 11th February 2009, 2:45PM GMT.

Phone mastMobile phone giant Vodafone wants to put up a 10 metre high mast in the middle of a housing estate in Bridgnorth, it has emerged.

Householders discovered the proposals for a site at the Woodberry Down Pub, Victoria Road, in a letter which they received yesterday.

The letter, from Mono Consultants of behalf of Vodafone, said the mast would be a “replica telegraph pole, similar to other masts in the area”.

It says: “There is a specific requirement for a radio based mast in the location in order to extend Vodafone’s 3G network coverage to customers within the area of Bridgnorth and wireless connection for the internet.”

The letter says that Vodafone is “seeking” the most suitable site, and one close to the pub has been put forward by the firm. Residents are now being asked for their views on the proposals.

Graham Hall, landlord of the Woodberry Down, said the proposals were at the “early stages”.

Sarah Perrins, on behalf of Punch Taverns, confirmed an application was being drawn up.

About time, too. Vodaphone reception in High Town is abysmal.

I hope that it’s not just to improve 3G services and that it’ll improve 2G as well.
