MP seeking views on windfarms

Wednesday 11th February 2009, 7:59PM GMT.

WindfarmSpiralling concerns over the expansion of windfarms in Montgomeryshire will be tackled in a series of public meetings.

Lembit Opik, MP for Montgomeryshire, has organised the meetings in a bid to gauge public opinion and is urging residents, both for and against the schemes, to attend.

The first meeting will be on Friday in Llanbrynmair and will include a presentation from Conservation of Upland Montgomeryshire.

Mr Opik said today: “There’s been a lot of reaction to the windfarm proposals. Some people support them, but others are extremely concerned about the environmental impact they’ll have on our landscape.

There’s also the question  of heavy construction traffic trundling through the area, as well as the power cables which will come too.

“I’m holding a series of meetings to give the public the chance to have their say.

Lembit Opik MP“It would be good if those opposed, in favour and just interested in the subject turned up.”

He added: “I intend to use the feedback to inform my representations in the planning process.”

Friday’s meeting at Llanbrynmair Village Hall will start at 5pm and is followed by a meeting at Llandinam Village Hall at 7pm.

Another meeting will be held at The Institute, Llanfair Caereinion, on Monday at 5pm and one on February 18 at Bettws Village Hall at 6pm.

I suggest you hook your house up to a wind farm Peter and watch your lights go out very regularly. In fact over new year you would have had no power at all for days. Its morons like you that dont understand the issues and useless nature of these machines that mean greedy developers get to put them everywhere. They have to be constantly backed up by fossil fuel power stations and so we can never decommission one and they have a negligible carbon saving. In fact the Advertising standards agency has just forced the british wind energy association to change all their claims on carbon reduction as they’ve been lying for years. Do some research instead of mouthing off.
