Last farewell for bus death dad
Wednesday 11th February 2009, 2:50PM GMT.
A mechanic who died in an accident at Oswestry’s bus depot was given a colourful send-off by football fans from around the country.
Father-of-one Phil Formstone, 46, died under a single-decker bus he is thought to have been working on at the Arriva depot, Salop Road, on January 25. A post mortem examination found he died of crush injuries.
Hundreds of people attended his funeral yesterday at Gresford All Saints Church, near Wrexham. Many took up the invitation by Mr Formstone’s family to wear their favourite football team’s shirt.
Mr Formstone, from Gresford and who had worked at the Oswestry bus depot since leaving school, was a lifelong Wrexham fan. Fans of many clubs including Shrewsbury Town, Chesterfield and Notts County attended in their club colours.
Pete Formstone, Phil’s brother, said: “Phil was football mad and he would have loved to have seen all the football shirts.
“There were lots of Wrexham fans there, but also other clubs too.
“One of his colleagues at the depot was a pallbearer and is a Shrewsbury Town fan and he wore his team colours.
“The church was packed and there was standing room only at the end and I don’t think Phil knew how popular he was.”

Nobody should be allowed to work under buses whilst they are lone workers. My heart goes out to his family.
