There was a buzz of excitement at Telford International Railfreight Terminal as its first train rolled in.
The locomotive arrived yesterday via the connection to the national rail network at Wellington.
The terminal is expected to become fully operational in May. The testing was attended by the new terminal operator John G Russell (Transport) Ltd, which has a strong tradition in rail networking having been involved in rail freight for about 40 years.
Kate Turner, project manager of Telford International Railfreight Park, said it was hugely exciting having the first train arrive.
“The whole project all in all has been going on for about 10 years. We secured funding in 2006 and the last three years have been the construction stage.
