Hotel jobs are saved

TelfordNearly 50 jobs have been protected in Telford after a threatened hotel was saved from administration.

The Madeley Court Hotel, in Madeley, was today taken over by Focus Hotels Management after its previous owners, the Real Hotel Company, went into administration last month.

The new owners say 47 jobs have been saved at the hotel. Focus Hotels has bought 10 hotels previously leased by the Real Hotel Company, saving 500 jobs nationwide. The Purplehotel in Shrewsbury is not one of the hotels saved by the group.

Andrew Edwards, general manager at Madeley Court, has run the hotel since November 2007.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted with the news, the past three weeks has been a worrying time for the team and everyone was fearful of the hotel’s future and their livelihood.

“They were fantastic though and carried on with duty as normal. The team at Focus have a wealth of industry knowledge and experience and we are all looking forward to the exciting challenge ahead.

“We are now contacting brides-to-be to assure them of their wedding plans, which is a great relief all round.”

The hotel was formerly known as The Clarion Madeley Court. Madeley Court was sold to King Henry VIII in 1544 and then to a succession of wealthy noblemen and industrialists.

Madeley Court Hotel? Don’t you mean the Clarion, is it any wonder nobody goes there with a name like that!
Although that hideous glass and steel monstrosity called Madeley Academy soon to be completed can’t help draw in custom surely.
