Cambrian House Business Centre is to be sold at auction
A four-storey office block in the centre of Shrewsbury, which houses the county court, is to be sold in an auction at Manchester United’s football ground.
Cambrian House Business Centre in Chester Street has been given a guide price of between £750,000 and £1 million. It will go under the hammer on February 26 at a sale conducted by Pugh & Company at Old Trafford, Manchester.
It is not known what the sale will mean for the county court, which is based at the centre along with other offices leased by the Secretary of State under a £45,500-a-year tenancy agreement. Other occupants include occupational health provider the PTH Group and South Staffordshire and Shropshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Andrew Allen, of Allen Business Developments, which owns the property, today declined to comment on the sale. But a sign outside the building said that business is “not affected”.
Property auctioneers Pugh & Company describe the centre as a freehold part vacant/part commercial investment producing an income equating to £64,485.50-a-year.
It comes with a total net internal area of 1,599.62 sq metres and 12 car parking spaces.
The decision to auction off the site comes less than three years after Allen Business Developments failed in a bid to turn the centre into 24 apartments.
An independent inspector from the Planning Inspectorate said the loss of an employment site could not be justified. The inspector decided that losing the valuable office space would harm the town centre.
