Storm drifts over county
Tuesday 10th February 2009, 11:49AM GMT.
Shropshire escaped the worst of the wintry storm which has battered much of England and Wales today.
The Environment Agency has issued 101 flood warnings, mostly in the south of the UK, where heavy rain and fierce winds have caused treacherous driving conditions.
In Shropshire, the south of the county was worst hit. There were blizzards during the early evening yesterday, before three inches of snow fell overnight.
A heavy covering of snow also fell on higher ground in Telford. All county schools were open today.

How disappointing – no snow in Shrewsbury again! Our hopes are built up time and time again, sledges at the ready and then what – a few miserable flakes!
