Moss sorry for letting boss down
Tuesday 10th February 2009, 12:20PM GMT.
Dejected Shrewsbury Town full-back Darren Moss today reflected on his Shrewsbury Town red card misery and admitted: “I’ve let myself and the gaffer down.”
Moss was dismissed for a petulant kick on Bournemouth forward Brett Pitman on Saturday, compounding the misery for Shrewsbury after a 1-0 defeat at the League Two strugglers.
That will yield an immediate three-match ban for the 27-year-old who now misses the home double header against Chesterfield and Chester, as well as the trip to Luton.
And that prospect is proving a source of immense frustration for Moss who has started the last 15 games in succession at right-back.
“I’m devastated and feel as though I have let down myself and the gaffer as well because he has shown faith in me,” said the former Welsh under 21 international.
“I hardly touched their lad and he was rolling around and got straight up and ran past me when the red card was shown.
“But you can’t do anything these days and I knew as soon as I had done it what the ref was going to do. It’s a big setback.”
The suspension to Moss could not have come at a worse time. He is out of contract at the end of the season and is battling for his Shrewsbury Town future.
And he will now have to dislodge Ben Herd from the team when the ban has run its course.
“The weekend was a real down point for me but over the next couple of days I have to pick myself up and get ready to go again,” he added.
“People pick up injuries and suspensions and you never know what’s going to happen in football. I’m fortunate in that I can play in a few different positions so we will see what happens.”
Last night’s scheduled reserve team trip to Port Vale was postponed because of the weather.
