Landslide road reopens

Monday 9th February 2009, 11:30AM GMT.

Harley BankA Shropshire road, which was closed after 80 tonnes of rock fell on to it during a landslide, has reopened.

Council officials said the A458 at Harley Bank, Much Wenlock, was opened on Saturday afternoon.

The road had been closed on Thursday night and motorists were diverted on to minor roads through Buildwas, Eaton Constantine Cross Roads and Cressage.

Laura Owen, for Shropshire County Council, today said: “The A458 at Harley Bank was reopened to traffic on Saturday at 3.30pm.”

It is the second time there has been a landslip at Harley Bank since engineers carried out improvements last July.

However, officials said this rock fall was due to the collapse of part of an old quarry.
