Fire control room staff suspended

Monday 9th February 2009, 2:35PM GMT.

Staff at Shropshire Fire & Rescue service have been suspended while an investigation is carried out, it was revealed today.

But bosses at the fire service headquarters in St Michael’s Street, Shrewsbury, refused to reveal why the staff had been suspended or how many were involved.

A spokesman said: “An investigation is under way and a number of people have been suspended.” Deputy chief fire officer Paul Raymond confirmed the staff involved were all control room personnel.

He reassured people in the county that the suspensions and investigation would not affect the duties of the fire service in the region.

It is believed the Fire Brigades Union is involved in talks over the matter.

Nobody from the FBU was available today.
