Bird society may fold

Telford’s Caged Bird Society may fold after falling victim to the modern age.
Members of the society will decide tomorrow whether to bring the group to an end.
Gerald Cooper, society chairman, said: “We have been trying to get new members. It’s the way of the world. Kids are not interested in keeping birds.”
The annual meeting at the Kings Head pub in Hadley centre at 8pm will vote on a proposal agreed at a recent meeting that the group should fold.
The society was rescued from the brink of closure in 2001 when the number of members had plummeted.
Mr Cooper said they only had about 15 members now compared to the 1960s when they had numbers in the 30s or 40s.
